Bands breaking up is pretty much inevitable. It’s extremely rare that a band are able to stay together as a group throughout your lifetime. Unless you’re maybe an original Rolling Stones or Black Sabbath fan. Yesterday it was announced that The Magic Gang had broken up, which got me thinking about what pointers I would give to someone during the “Band Grieving” process. So I have accumulated some points to consider during this time:
- Enjoy Being A Fan
Just because they’ve broken up, it doesn’t mean you suddenly have to move on and ignore their existence at all. You still have access to their music online or even in person via physical copy. Don’t let this dent your enjoyment of their music or change the way you’ve always been keen to support the band.
2. Look For Similar Bands
If you choose not to follow the previous tip and you are somewhat enraged by the decision for them to split then I do have an alternative. Look for someone similar. Bands influence bands so if you look hard enough, you will find plenty of similar artists to the band you so greatly support.
3. You Saw Them Live, Maybe
One big take away from your prized artists departing, is that you may have been lucky enough to see them perform live. Pretty big deal if they never perform together again, kind of like the guy who always claims to have seen Oasis live before they made it big. You almost have a bragging right in ways for anyone else who stumbles across their music in the future. Memories last forever, especially at gigs and festivals so consider. yourself lucky.
4. Have Hope
Money talks, especially when its to perform for crowds who have been waiting years to see you live. With this, bare in mind that A LOT of bands and artists come back after they so say “Retire” or have “Bitter rivalry”. I can’t make any promises so don’t take it for gospel but just take it into consideration if you feel that all hope is lost.
Adding to this, most artists go on to pursue a solo career, some more successful than others but with their fandom already following them, this is usually the right move to make. So because of this, its always worth keeping your fingers crossed to see and hear your favourite artist again.
Conclusion
To conclude this guide, just because it’s currently over, it doesn’t mean it’s permanent. Keep that t-shirt, keep the posters and don’t remove any songs from your playlist too soon. Music is permanent, once it’s out there it’s out there and it’s yours to own.
